I know! Jesus himself said as much about the death penalty. I think it went something like, "Don't let her go unpunished, let's all throw at the same time!" Or something like that.
I don't think the death penalty is an inappropriate punishment. However, given the behavior or law enforcement and prosecutor's offices, I find the number of instances where I trust the death penalty to be an act carrying out justice to be extremely limited.
What always irks me is that in one breath someone will say that the government can't be trusted/is incompetent/is controlled by a secret organization/etc., then in the next breath sing the praises of capital (state imposed) punishment.
Taking it off the table is a foolish move even if you don't use it. Now to prevent corruption, then if it proven that someone lied to get another imprisoned falsely should given the same fate.
It doesn't prevent anything. if it did, death penalty states wouldn't have higher murder rates. The only justification is and eye for an eye, just like Jesus would want!
